Short Getaway to Bali: Day 2

Today was the most tiring day because we went to so many places! Despite being exhausted by the end of the day, it was definitely worth it because it was where I got really got to see the culture of the Balinese people.

Just outside the breakfast area, there was this man playing the traditional Gamelan that is usually made from wood and bamboo to create its beautiful music.

As we begin out long journey, we passed by this temple and the reason why I took a picture of it was actually because of the sign that you can see on the left hand side. The sign reads "Women during their menstrual cycle are not permitted inside the temple." According to their religion, it is believed that women are impure during their menstrual cycles and won't be able to worship their gods properly.

The first place we visited was a large open temple in Denpasar called Goa Cajah which is also known as the Elephant Cave.

Typical offering left by the people.

Children and young teens playing the Gamelan.

This is actually a kitchen where the people cook food to leave as offerings.

Down, down, down the stairs we go to find...

...this gorgeous and serene location.

These broken rocks used to be apart of a temple before an earthquake tore it down.

Back inside the car snacking on tangerines. Yummy!

Shortly after we arrived at Mount and lake Batur in Kintamani. This place is quite special to me and my family because our house in Malta is actually named Kintamani after this place.

Doesn't it just take your breath away?

Is it lunch time already? Perfect!

For starters we have french fries, spring roll and satay. Oh my body is crying right now.

As usual, I dumped all the delicious looking food onto my plate and made a gigantic mess! What we have in the concoction is curry chicken, Chinese fried egg, spicy beef, noodles and fried veggies.

Don't forget the delicious fresh coconut!

Off we go to the rice terraces!

I had to take pictures of nearly everything that was made in this shop. Hand made ornaments, paintings, the works!

Jumping right back into the car to head to Tanah Lot.

Just look at how magnificent it is!

Wanted to get a henna tattoo done to remember the trip.

The tattoo means mind, body and spirit. It can also be seen as the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Why is Tanah Lot so special? Why do so many people visit it? Besides the gorgeous sunset, you can actually only go inside when the tide goes out which is typically at 5 o'clock. During the day the pathway is completely covered by the sea.

End of the day? I think not!

Time to get some more food! A little taste of home, Ice Lemon Tea.

Of course you have to have assorted bread.

Nasi Lemak!!

Now it is the end of the day!
