Hello darlings! Today I'm bringing you something quite different to what I usually write. Before I even begin I would like to say that I am not a gynecologist or a doctor in any way and I am not telling you that you should start taking the pill. This post is specifically for those who are interested in learning a bit more about what it entails. This is purely based on my experience.
So from the title of this post y'all already know I'm going to be talking about the pill so this might get a little graphic and disgusting so I apologize if this offends of disturbs anyone.
For those of you who don't know what the pill is, it's an oral contraceptive that you take everyday. However, it's not only a contraceptive but it also helps to regulate hormones, so some people use it not to get pregnant and some use it to clear up their acne. I personally started taking it because of my period cramps.
Ever since I started my period I always had excruciatingly painful cramps and for years I just dealt with it by lying in bed and placing a hot towel over my tummy. Obviously that wasn't enough so about 5 months ago my mum thought it was time to put me on the pill to help with the pain.
When I was in Malta, I went to the gynecologist and for my specific case, she prescribed me Zoely. Guys, please be careful and always see a specialist before taking these things.
This is what the box looks like
And here's what's inside it
These are the pills. They are extremely small and easy to swallow. The white pills are the ones you take when you're not on your period and the orange ones are usually taken during or before your period. I took my first pill on the first day I got my period and I continued taking one everyday.
Take note of the "Place day label here" cos I'll be explaining that soon.
These are the stickers that you're supposed to place over the "Place day label here." This is to keep track of what day your period started and how long it's lasting. So if your period started on a Monday, then you peel off the first row and stick over the "Place day label here."
This is a small pouch to keep your sheet of pills in so that it's convenient to carry around if you don't have time to take it or if you're staying over at a friend's house.
Of course, it comes with a leaflet that tells you the ingredients, how to take it, possible side affects and pretty much everything you need to know about the pill.
Now with the experience. I was pretty hesitant to take these pills because of all the possible side affects that were listed but for the most part, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
The very first thing I noticed was I was an emotional wreck for 3 months straight. I was very agitated, I got angry easily, pretty much mood swings everyday. It eventually calmed down once I started my third month. I felt really bad for everyone around me cos I felt like I was being a total bitch and no one deserved that *sad*
The next thing I noticed was a missed period for a whole month. It just totally skipped it like it didn't exist which was awesome until my emotions took over and I started panicking that I was never gonna get my period again and not have kids. I contacted my gynecologist and she said that a missed period is totally normal when starting the pill. She said that until it adjusts, I could have skipped my period for 3 months straight or have a period on and off. This is because, like I said before, the pill regulates the hormones so it's gonna mess it up for a while until it gets back on track but it's nothing to be worried about. I got my period in the next month and it was a very short and very light. It wasn't a proper period because there was such little blood and yet I was still cramping pretty badly. By the third month my period was normal and my cramps were only slightly noticeable.
One thing I was kind of bummed about was that my skin didn't clear up at all. I was still getting my usual pimples and it didn't look flawless, which is fine to be really honest because it's not the reason I was taking it but hey who doesn't want flawless skin right?
There's another problem that really only concerns smokers like me. When being on the pill you can only smoke a maximum of 3 sticks a day and they actually recommend stopping all together. This is because it can cause a disease called Thrombosis. Thrombosis is basically the increase in blood clots which can be very risky.
Those were the two biggest problems I had with it. It was an emotional roller coaster and it was a horrible experience but once it started to calm down, it was just like a vitamin I was supposed to take everyday and I don't notice the effects anymore.
If there's something that I missed and you'd like to ask about please leave a comment below or email me at kissaunnatasha@gmail.com :)
